Happy Monday, world. I hope everyone’s week is off to a beautiful start. Me, I’m in the process of attempting to transform myself into a morning person through consistency and gentle, brute force. So far, so good. I’m back with another resource roundup to highlight some awesome resources floating in the sea of nonsense that is today’s internet. I hope at least one of these will add some value to your life.
Here are the topics that will be covered in each resource roundup:
- Mind Care: Helping your mental health, ability to think critically.
- Body Care: Taking the best care of your body from fitness to food.
- Community Care: There are a ton of great grassroots efforts- let’s explore and get involved
- Time Care: Cool places to put your attention in moments of free time. Includes life hacks that can save you time, energy and money since ya know… time is money in capitalism.
I’m gonna keep saying it because I be changing my mind… these categories are subject to change, but we gotta start somewhere!

Chess.com app

Chess is a game that I love. It challenges you to think strategically while facing an opponent and really tests your ability to stay focused on a single objective. In a world full of distractions and time-sinks competing for your attention, I feel like strengthening one’s mind with a strategy game like chess improves your ability to focus on the big picture and adjust when things don’t go according to plan. The Chess.com app is by far the best chess app I’ve dealt with and I think the 250 million + registered users would agree. The app has lessons if you’re new to the game, puzzles for solo practice, and you can also play computers of varying skill levels. When you’re ready to play with other people, the enormous community makes online gaming super quick and easy. The app has a free-mium model (free basic use, this is what I use) or you can pay for premium features. Check it out by clicking the photo!
SenyaiGrubs’ Cheesy Hidden Veggie Bolognese
Foodtube is a big part of my life. I’ve never been much for diets or anything, but I feel like these past few years have given me a good amount of insight into the importance of fueling my body with good, clean vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that come from natural foods. Fruits and vegetables are actually delicious, but this weird capitalist hellscape that we’ve worked ourselves into makes it seem like a big accomplishment to eat them. Here’s a great recipe that will help remind you how good real food is and how un-complicated it is to prepare. It’s really mostly just chopping vegetables, which can be fun and therapeutic. This cheesy bolognese was delicious to eat and inspired many good dishes -ooh I know what I’m gonna share in the next resource roundup now LOL!
United Way

There are countless ways to help others in your community; helping build homes, cooking meals, sorting canned goods at food banks, sorting and folding donated clothes, trash pickups, teaching, you name it. United Way is an international network that does fantastic work in connecting people that can help to people who need help. Regardless of where you fall on that spectrum, checking out the volunteer opportunities and resource offerings available with your local United Way Chapter could help propel your life in some beautiful ways. I will say, it’s kind of inconvenient that you have to make a profile, but it is honestly life changing to tap into a network of action-oriented helpers in the world. Especially in today’s climate, seeing and being in the realm of kindness, generosity and cooperation is an absolute balm for the soul. Click the photo to search your local chapter. I’m not gonna lie, their user interface is kinda trash so you’ll probably have an easier time google searching “united way volunteer opportunities [insert your zip code]”.
Pomodoro Technique

This is a little trick I was recently reintroduced to when wasting time on reddit doing “productivity research”. The Pomodoro technique. This is excellent for actually spending the time you’ve allotted to getting work done to truly focusing without feeling overwhelmed by the big task ahead. The way it works is you set a timer for however long of a working period you’d like to focus for. I personally am a fan of keeping it to 20-25 minutes. During that working period, you FOCUS. No phones, no distractions, anything that comes up that isn’t an emergency will have to wait until your working time is up. When working time is up, you get a little preset break, say 5 or 10 minutes. Then, repeat. This is great for those of us who rely on procrastination as a self-soothing method. An extremely ineffective one. This Pomodoro timer created by a redditor is actually extremely cute and makes you want to dive right into the task(s) at hand. No signup required to use, but creating one allows you to track your tasks and check out your statistics over time.
